Thee function must be turned on manually to use your phone's GPS to track a lost child. When I was at the phone store and asked could my phone track my child the sales man happily reported "yes". He did not, however, tell me that it could only do this if I was to go into my phone's settings, find the setting, and manually turn it on.
The setting must be set on "Location On" and not "911 Only" to use your cell phone's GPS device to track a lost child. Go to your phone's main menu, then to settings, then to "location", and you should find the option there. Note that unless you enable this option your location can only be tracked if you dial 911.
The battery must be in good condition and charged to use your cell phone's GPS device to track a lost child. The phone can be turned off and still be tracked, however, a phone with a dead battery will not send a signal.
The child must be carrying this phone on his/her person to use the cell phone GPS device to track your child. The phone is of no use to you or your child if they have a cell phone with no charge or they leave the phone at home. You might wish to get in the regular habit of checking your child before they leave the house to be certain they have their charged cell phone on their person. They need to carry the phone in a secure pocket or purse not easily lost or dropped.
If your child is not home by the time you expect them, or does not respond to your call, you should immediately, and with no hesitation, contact the police by dialing 911. Immediately give them your child's cell phone number and ask them to begin immediate tracking of the phone. Do not hesitate, precious minutes matter. If you have been mistaken and your child walks in the front door 30 seconds later you will hug and be oh so happy. Never wait if you think something is amiss. The police will be happy your child is home safe.
