Garmin Voice Recognition Could Save Your Life

Garmin voice recognition could save your life. Let's face it. GPS are a great help in navigating, but GPS are also very dangerous. Every time you start up your GPS, you have to agree to the disclaimer on the start up screen that says "Do not enter route information or adjust this device while driving. Failure to pay attention to the operation of your vehicle could result in death, serious injury, or property damage. You assume total risk and responsibility for using this device". You can be certain that this would not be displayed each time you start the GPS if Garmin were not concerned about your using the GPS incorrectly thus endangering your life and the lives of others.

The danger in using a GPS lies in your having to take your eyes off the road to poke your command or information into the touch screen on the GPS. Do you really pull over and stop to do this? If you do, you are the exception, since most people enter information into their GPS at 70 MPH.

Garmin created the solution to this problem with Garmin voice recognition in the Garmin Nuvi 800 series GPS. This series contained the Nuvi 850, and Nuvi 880. These units have subsequently been replaced by the Nuvi 855 and the Nuvi 885T.

You might think, "How does the GPS know when I am speaking a command and when am I talking to someone"? Good question. The Garmin GPS comes with a remote control button that mounts on your steering wheel to indicate to the GPS when to listen for your commands.

To use Garmin voice recognition, push the remote control button and speak the command. For example, say "Find Address". Then speak the address. The GPS will verify the address and then recalculate the route to it. You never take your eyes off the road.

Both the Nuvi 855 and the Nuvi 885T contain Garmin voice recognition and are identical in all features except the 885T additionally contains Bluetooth® and MSN® Direct with receiver and service subscription in the price. As you would expect, the Nuvi 885T is more expensive than the Nuvi 855.

When you purchase your next GPS, seriously consider paying the additional amount and purchase a unit with Garmin voice recognition. It will make your driving much safer.
